Questions about Gel...
What is an enhancement?
An enhancement is a product that is applied to your nail in order to enhance strength and appearance. All enhancements are some for of plastic (acrylic, dip and gel included), but different enhancements have different attributes and level of quality. Some key differences are hardness, viscosity, method of application, and method of removal.
What is multi-flex gel?
A semi-hard gel enhancement that provides strength to a certain hardness level that is softer than acrylic or dip, but harder than soft gel. It is hard, strong, but still has some flexibility to it, along with feeling lighter than other enhancement products. Depending on hardness level and viscocity, some multi-flex gels can be used to build extensions to the natural nail.
What is structured gel?
Interchangeable word for mulit-flex gel
Is structured gel the same as Shellac?
No. Shellac is actually a brand name of soft gel that has been now generalized to the majority of the population to use as a general term for regular (or soft) gel, which cannot be used for structure, to build extensions, nor to add any strength.
Isn't all gel the same?
No. There are many brands, and all can have varied products within their brands. There are soft gels, semi-soft gels (this is where structured gel falls under), and hard gels. Each of those three brackets have a range in difference of hardness and viscosity. Also, hard gels cannot be soaked off with acetone.
How long does structured gel last?
Structured gel can last 2-4 weeks on the nails. There are many variables as to why a structured gel manicure can last up to 4 weeks. Nails need to be taken care of and not be used as tools to help ensure the longest lasting wear. I recommend an average of 3 weeks between structured gel manicure appointments.
Why does structured gel last so long?
There are a few factors that contribute to successful structured gel wear. Firstly, is preparation for good adhesion. The natural nail plateMUST be free of oils, lotions, creams, and any dead skin cells. Also, high quality products should be used as directed for proper adhesion. Structured gel is also lighter and more flexible than harder products (like acrylic, dip, or hard gel), but stronger than soft gel (like Shellac), so it works together with your natural nail. However, how you treat your nails between appointments can affect your wear.
